Swim Lessons
All ages - from infants to seniors - can learn to swim.  YMCA Swim Lessons are divided into 3 categories:
Swim Starters - Infants and toddlers, accompanied by a parent
Swim Basics - Preschool to Adult
Swim Strokes - Preschool to Adult

Swim Starters - Ages 6 months - 3 yrs. 

Accompanied by a parent; infant and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision.  These classes are 30 mins. in length.

A - Water Discovery: Introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatics environment.

B - Water Exploration: Focuses on exploring body positions, blowing bubbles, and fundemental safety and aquatic skills. 

Swim Basics - 3 yrs. - Adult

Students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills: swim, float, swim - sequencing front glide, roll, back float, roll, front glide, and exit - and jump, push, turn, grab. 

Students are taught the recommended skills for all to have around water including safe water habits, underwater exploration, and how to swim to safety and exit in the event of falling into a body of water.  Activities, games, and drills, geared to reinforce learning, are utilized heavily as students progress in this skill-based approach to swimming.  These classes are 30 mins. in length. 

1-Water Acclimation: Increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance.

2-Water Movement: Encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently.

3-Water Stamina: Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances than in previous stage.

Swim Strokes - 5 yrs. - Adult 

Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity.

Swimmers are introduced to the four competitive swimming strokes as well as rescue skills and healthy lifestyle habits.  These classes are 40 mins. in length. 

4-Stroke Introduction: Introduces basic stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary backstroke. 

5-Stroke Development: Introduces breaststroke and butterfly and reinforces water safety through treading water and sidestroke.

6-Stroke Mechanics: Refines stroke technique on all major competitive strokes and encourages swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle. 

All swim lessons are once a week for 8 weeks.  Cost for a session is $30 for members and $60 for non-members.  To help decide what level you or your child are at please click on our lesson selector to help you make and informed decision. Private Swim Lessons - Ages 3 and up

We offer private lessons, which are one-on-one with an experienced and trained instructor for 30 minutes.  If you are interested in private lessons please fill out our private lesson registration form and register at our member service desk.  We have the following options available for private lessons:

Single Class - $20 member  $50 non-member

4 Classes - $50 member  $80 non-member

8 Classes - $90 member  $120 non-member
