To Kim
The Norwich Family YMCA is deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend, our former employee, former board member, former volunteer, and our 2011 YMCA Hero Award Volunteer recipient. Many people have been blessed by knowing this wonderful woman, mother, spouse, friend and advocate for many. Whether you knew her by Kimberlea Ann (Schipper, Morrell, Perez or Willow) you were lucky because you were able to experience friendship, compasion, fairness, loyalty, love, genuineness, and a smile that will be remembered forever.
Approximately ten years ago, the Norwich YMCA did not have a website or other social media accounts. Kim and Nancy Willow donated their time to create our first website for the Norwich Family YMCA.They wrote the code, content and everything went through them. Soon we added Facebook and Twitter accounts to promote the Y. Kim was the catalyst to make this happen for us. Our social media success is all due to Kim and her willingness to make this happen. We celebrate the thousands of page downloads, thousands of visitors to our website, and almost 3,000 Facebook friends and followers. We have come a long way and we will continue to grow because of Kim's passion to make us better, to connect us to others, and to bring us together. It is bitter sweet that we can recognize Kim on one of the platforms that she created for us to increase our visibility and to tell our many stories. Well, this is our opportunity to tell a little story about Kim and to thank her for all that she has done for us.
As we conclude our 155th year of operation, we must state that Kim's contributions to our YMCA through Human Resources, Technology, Fitness, and Leadership has been second to none. We are a better organization because of you. Your dedication and commitment did not go unnoticed.
We will miss your infectious smile, your love of life, your commitment to causes, and your dedication to your friends.
Rest in peace my friend, your work here is done, but we will continue on, until we meet again.
Building Bright Futures
Though the school year is upon us, we still have room in our Preschool program! Not only does this program expose children to academic skills, but it promotes confidence and encourages exploration. PLUS, students are able to utilize many features within our facility. From swimming lessons in our pool to running through our Kid's Gym, our Preschool program goes beyond the classroom. The Norwich Y has been nurturing children for over 35 years, join us in the next school year and let us inspire your child! Please bring your child's birth certificate and immunization records in order to register. Children must be turning 4 by November. Registration is based on first-come, first-served. For more information give the Y a call!
2016 Open Doors Scholarship Results
Thank you to the 231 individuals and businesses who donated to the 2016 Open Doors Scholarship Campaign. Collectively we raised $100,836 (our highest yet!) to help support hundreds of families, children, seniors and adults within our community with membership costs and program fees. It is because of you we are able to address our community needs while ensuring all are welcome and that no one is turned away for an inability to pay. Please be sure to check out our 2016 Open Doors Scholarship Report highlighting our donors and outlining the successful campaign. Thank you all for your generosity to help provide the resources to build a stronger, healthier, and more connected community.

The Norwich Y and Chobani a healthy combination
In an effort to provide our members with a healthy snack option – especially those youth members who utilize the YMCA facility – we’ve teamed up with Chobani to... bring you a delicious, all-natural treat.
We ask that you limit yourself to one free Chobani Greek Yogurt a week and don’t forget to place all your trash in the garbage when you’re done refueling!
We hope all of our YMCA members enjoy this protein-packed option. Thank you Chobani for supporting our community YMCA, especially our youth members.
Photos attached include: YMCA Executive Director, Jamey Mullen, Chobani, Executive Project Specialist, Lynette VanValkenburg and YMCA Trustee & Y Member, Howie Sullivan. Additional photos highlight many of our young YMCA Members enjoying a healthy break from their playtime in our Kids Gymnasium.
