All Norwich Family YMCA childcare programs provide a safe and
caring environment for your
child to enjoy a variety of activities throughout the year. YMCA
programs offer daily activities that include arts and crafts projects,
computer time, cooking projects, gym time, swimming, games, playtime
in our Kids' Gym, snack and occasional field trips. Our activities
are designed to reinforce the YMCA character development program
which helps children develop four basic values: Caring, Honesty,
Respect and Responsibility. Team building, cooperation, self-esteem
and achieving personal goals are also emphasized. Norwich Family
YMCA Child Care Staff members are chosen for their caring and energetic
personalities and experience working with children. All staff members
receive extensive training in accordance with New York State and
YMCA operating standards in order to assure that all children will
be kept safe and healthy while in our care.

| The Norwich Family YMCA
Nursery School and Preschool is designed to meet the needs of
a very important part of our population –
our future citizens and leaders! We have designed programs that
encourage children to explore, inquire and attempt to solve the
many problems and questions they have – in essence, to learn
by doing. We want to instill in them a lifelong love of learning.
The classroom program provides each child with age-appropriate
experiences that encourage self-help skills, a positive self-image,
language and communication skills, positive social interaction,
large and small motor development, school readiness skills
and creative expression. To accomplish this we enjoy many interesting
books, songs, calendar time, movement to music, science ‘experiments,’
hands-on math activities, art projects, and healthy snacks.
Another important part of the YMCA program addresses a child’s physical
health. The aquatics staff provides weekly swim instruction in a non threatening
environment, which allows each child to have a positive experience in the water.
A child is never forced to do something that they are not yet ready to do – “go
at your own pace” is the YMCA’s motto. Safety in and around the pool
is practiced and taught during each lesson. The YMCA swim program uses games
and songs to make learning swim skills more fun. Children also participate in
a weekly physical education class, enjoying the opportunity to hop, skip, run
and jump – learning to move their bodies in healthy ways! |
