Dear Norwich Family YMCA Members and Community Friends,

Welcome to the Norwich Family YMCA Web Site!

The Norwich Family YMCA has been providing programs and services in the Greater Norwich communities for 145 years. Today more than ever, YMCA’s and families are working together to meet the many needs of families in our community.

Your Norwich Family YMCA is a very unique place that serves all people, all ages, all incomes, all faiths, and all abilities. We reach thousands of children during non-school hours. We encourage volunteerism, as we are a volunteer founded and led organization. We partner with many neighborhood and community based organizations to meet our community’s needs. Our programs are as diverse as our membership and our community. We have programs that promote health and wellness, childcare to assist working parents, sports that teach teamwork and sportsmanship, swim lessons for the young and the young at heart, and many other programs and activities where individuals and families can grow and improve their spirituality, mind, and body.

Many people ask me what our most popular program is at the YMCA? Is it Kickboxing with the 50-70 participants a class? Is it Youth Basketball with over 650 youth participants? Is it Water Fitness or Arthritic classes which have a religious following? Or, is it one of our many childcare programs that provide enriching activities and care for approximately 170 children per day? These programs are very popular at the YMCA but in my opinion there is one program that is greater and more important than any YMCA program and that is our “Open Doors” scholarship program. This program provides financial assistance to over 600 individuals and family members and gives them the opportunity to utilize the YMCA facility and its programs. Without this program, many of these YMCA members may never have joined or participated.
